Welcome to the website for Cork City Music College. At CCMC we promote ‘Music for Life’ and whether you are interested in music classes for your child or for yourself, the benefit of a music education should not be underestimated. It has been proven that music can stimulate our creativity, help build confidence, and thus impact positively upon and inspire other areas of our lives.
Diversity is a key aspect of the teaching of music at CCMC. Traditionally music lessons have focused on the music of classical masters. While the study of these composers will remain an important element in the teaching of music, CCMC recognises the shift that is taking place where popular music is playing a more integral role in music education. The increase in academic study in popular music coupled with the popularity of reality TV talent shows has meant that popular music is relevant more than ever.
While music institutions in Ireland may focus on one or another genre of music, CCMC promotes the importance of a well-rounded music education and thus we provide classes that are broad-ranging in styles and that cater for the interests and abilities of each student. At a CCMC event, one is just as likely to hear music by Pharrell Williams, U2, Katy Perry, or Christy Moore as Mozart and Beethoven! After all, at CCMC our main objective is to instil a love of music in our students through recognising every student as an individual, with different interests and musical tastes to the next student. While there are opportunities for students to participate in ensembles, concerts, competitions, and exams, these are not compulsory. The staff at CCMC are highly qualified and experienced teachers and musicians with full Garda clearance and are committed to providing a music education that is centred around you.
At CCMC, we are delighted to welcome students from all ages and backgrounds, whether as complete beginners, improvers, or experienced musicians. Adults are equally welcome as children. We have many centres located outside the city in addition to our city centre premises so there is a location to suit you. Our prices compare very favourably with similar schools of music around the country and being a registered charity and a not-for-profit organisation we endeavour to keep music affordable. An important benefit of CCMC is that enrolling for music classes gives students the opportunity to attend theory classes for free, a chance not to be missed!
