Music Bug Club

Music Bug Club

The Music Bug Club class is ideal for senior infant and first class students. Our aim is to introduce your child to music, probably one of the most rewarding experiences of his/her life, in a fun way. The children are encouraged to enjoy and appreciate music making in a non-competitive, non-pressurised way.

The objective is to develop the child's aural ability through pitch and rhythmic activities, including movement to music, singing, and active listening in order to prepare them for instrumental tuition.

The child will be introduced to music making and notation through the use of voice, recorder, and percussion instruments with the support of four helpful bugs, Bernie Bee, Clive Caterpillar, Colin Cricket, and Lucy Ladybird!

Classes are held once a week for a half hour and take place immediately after school in our Outreach centres in Ballygarvan, Beaumont, Carrigaline, Douglas, Glasheen, Glounthaune, Innishannon, Midleton, Rochestown, and Saleen. We also run several classes throughout the week in our main centre in Coláiste Éamann Rís from approx. 4pm. The cost of the class is €208 per semester, and there are 2 semesters a year.

In some Outreach centres, with sufficient enrolment and classroom availability, we can offer separate senior infant and first class Music Bug club classes at their respective school finish times.

We strongly encourage participation in performances and concerts in the centres, and Music Bug Club students also have the opportunity to take part in our annual Ensembles concert where all our Music Bug Club classes, across Cork city and county, come together to form one large performing group.

These are the following locations and times for Music Bug Club 1 classes for September 2023. Please note, class availability is subject to sufficient enrolment and there may also be some slight changes due to alterations in class scheduling in centres.

Scheduling of Music Bug Club classes takes place during the summer months. Class times for September 2024 have not been confirmed yet but we hope to adhere as closely as possible to the 2023 academic year.
